LP 002 Karoo Calling

Karoo Calling is an original acrylic and charcoal painting from my Limited Palette Series—a growing collection of small, individually numbered artworks created using black, white and just a handful of carefully chosen colours.

It began as a simple study of a windpump at dusk, but evolved to become more about longing than landscape.

Every winter, when the Cape storms settle in, I find myself missing the Karoo. I think of sunny, crisp winter days, slow breakfasts with rusks dunked into condensed milk coffee, and evenings gathered around a fire with a pot of soup on the stove.

Sometimes a place has a way of calling you back. This little painting is about answering that call.

Like every work in the Limited Palette Series, this painting forms part of an ongoing visual diary—small observations, moments of curiosity and quiet discoveries that emerge through the process of painting.
