LP 007 A Season of One's Own
A Season of One's Own is an original acrylic painting from my Limited Palette Series—a growing collection of small, individually numbered artworks created using black, white and just a handful of carefully chosen colours.
Come June, the Western Cape performs one of its quiet miracles.
Streets and roadsides we've driven past without a second glance for months suddenly erupt into brilliant reds, oranges and yellows. Hillsides become castles crowned with glowing turrets, transforming the familiar landscape almost overnight.
It's impossible not to slow down and look.
The annual arrival of the aloes always reminds me that life has seasons. We all have times when we feel overlooked or ordinary, followed by moments when, quite unexpectedly, we bloom. Nature seems wonderfully unconcerned with whether it's fashionable or convenient—it simply flowers when its time comes.
For me, A Season of One's Own is a celebration of renewal and the quiet confidence of coming into your own season.
Like every work in the Limited Palette Series, this painting forms part of an ongoing visual diary—small observations, moments of curiosity and quiet discoveries that emerge through the process of painting.
